How you will earn money?

There are many ways to make money online…1000’s of different ways in fact! The problem is that people often get distracted by the “latest and greatest” product or service and they are never able to build a successful (and revenue generating) business.

Today we are going to run you through one of the most fundamental, yet the most powerful processes of generating revenue online. It is a proven technique, it is one that we use, and one that 10,000’s of other WA members use. It is also the ultimate “making money” process that worked 5 years ago and it is going to work 5 years from now and will present as much opportunity in the massive online world as you like

Just one thing before you get into the MONEY “stuff”…

The making money part of your business won’t happen quite yet. Before you earn money, you are going to first be focusing on creating your niche website (which will take place in the next two lessons) and the working to get traffic to your website. Without a website, without content, and without traffic, the MONEY doesn’t happen.

So don’t look at this like a race. You will reach success and a good deal of it, but before you build your own personal SKYSCRAPER of a business, you must first have a solid foundation to build it on. That is going to be our first goal within the Getting Started training. Cool?

Alright, let’s continue on! :)

Below is a video walk-through of today’s lesson and the process of “how to make money online”. Just click the PLAY button to watch it!

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: How to Make Money Online – The Process Explained

Over the coming days you are going to be working through this process and by the end of this phase of the training you are going to have an awesome foundation in place that will lead you to much greater success.

You are going to have your own website in a niche of your choice. Once you have these things in place, you are going to be able to create as much success as you want online.

Task #1: Understand the Make Money Process

There are MANY different ways that you can earn money online and many different ways in which you can build an entire business. In the coming lessons we are going to be walking you through the following process (and the video above explains it):

View the Full Size Infographic Here

There are 2 billion people (the audience) online and these people are looking (searching) for things all the time. They are looking for information and to buy products. That is where you are going to come in with your website and help these “audiences” by offering them information about what they are looking. You will be “helping” these people and earning revenue in the process.

By Lesson 4 of this course you are going to have your very own website in place that you will use to connect with your chosen audience. You will have your very own piece of the internet and a platform to connect anyone that you want who browses the Internet.

Here is a tutorial walking you through 6 of the ways that you are going to be able to earn MONEY from your website…

Task #2: Create (Write Down) Your Financial Goals

You want to earn revenue right? That is great. In order to earn anything however, you need to have some goals in place.

In this task we want you to join in on a “money goals” discussion here at Wealthy Affiliate. You are going to be telling us what your goals are and going forward, we are going to be helping you achieve these very goals!

QUESTION #1: How much money would you be happy earning?

QUESTION #2: How much would you be ecstatic earning?

QUESTION #3: And how much TIME are you willing to invest to achieve these goals?

PLEASE make 100% sure that you do not skip this step and you revisit this post regularly when you are in need of some motivation. I can absolutely assure you that if you work hard at this and you are persistent towards these goals, you will achieve them. But ultimately it is UP TO YOU!

Join Discussion: What are your “money” goals?

In addition to this, it would be wonderful if you commented on someone else’s goals they have posted within this thread. Aim to comment on at least two people’s goals. You likely can network with many other “like minded” people here at Wealthy Affiliate and this is a good way to get this rolling. Remember, this is a community and a very helpful and friendly one! :)

Task #3: Create Your Non-Financial Goals

Success is not just about money and how much revenue you can earn online. Creating and building tangible online assets are a huge success and monumental in the development of your business. Overcoming technical hurdles is a success. Building a website is a success. Choosing a niche is a success. Learning new information is a success. Freeing up more time for your family is a success. Doing something that you love is a success. Helping others is a success.

I want you to create some short term and long term “NON” financial goals today. These could be anything really.

Write down a list of things that you want to accomplish in:

The next 10 days.
The next 30 days.
The next 6 months.
The next year.

Remember, these goals cannot involve money. They have to involve something that is non-financial but can absolutely be part of your business building process. Write these down as well (could be on the same piece of paper) and keep safe.

What is a niche?

A niche is a distinct segment of a market, in other words an “audience”.

When choosing a niche that fits you, you should be choosing something that is ideally an interest, a passion, a hobby, a problem, a need or a want. Almost anything you can think of is a niche and that is why we are going to get you to choose YOUR niche based on things that you are interested in. You can earn money online from absolutely every single niche because there are billions of people out there searching every day.

The idea of a niche can be a little confusing at first, so I have created a video walk-through for this lesson that is going to walk you through what a niche is, how you earn money through a niche, and I will get you choosing your initial direction online. Watch the video below…

DISCUSS THIS VIDEO HERE: Choosing Your Direction – It Starts With a Niche!

Your online business should not feel like a day job. Earning money online should be fun, and it is fun. This all starts with choosing a niche that you are interested in and will enjoy working with.

The more you enjoy doing something the less it feels like a job and the more productive you are going to be. Carson and I are immensely passionate about online business and teaching people how to make money online, so that is the niche we have chosen with Wealthy Affiliate.

Your niche could be anything, but at the core of your niche selection it should be something that you “like”. Something you enjoy. Something you can talk about. Something you want to learn about.

But Really, a Niche is a Group of People

In the simplest form, a niche is really a group of people looking for stuff. When you select your niche, you want to avoid being too broad with your niche selection. What people fail to understand is the fact that there are millions of people looking for stuff online within what seems to be the smallest of niches, but they really are not.

Because of this, I have spent some time putting together a blog post outlining how you should approach your niche selection, how to avoid going too broad with your niche, and how to really narrow it down to a group of people that are more specific and targeted.

READ BLOG POST: A Niche is a Group of People Looking for New Stuff

I provide you with some real life examples of how to break down a broad niche into more specific groups. There is also a very active discussion there if you have any questions about your particular niche or you want to join in the on the conversation. 😉

Task 1: Choose Your Direction

We want you to select the niche that interests you most and gets you the most excited. You can either choose your own niche at this point or you can choose the “make money” niche (that should be your choice if you have no idea what niche to choose).

A few things that you should understand about niches are:

(1) You are going to be writing content within your niche
(2) You are going to be communicating within your niche
(3) You are going to be choosing products to promote within your niche
(4) You need to enjoy helping people within your niche.
(5) Your first niche PROBABLY won’t be your last (so don’t worry about it being perfect)
(6) Any niche can become a “full time” successful business

There is NO SUCH THING as choosing the wrong niche.

Also, note that niches can always change. Just because you are choosing a niche now does not mean you will be in this particular niche forever. Either way, please do not spend a week choosing your niche. Within the next 15-30 minutes (maximum) you should have your “starting point” niche chosen.

At this stage of the course you have chosen your niche. Now we are going to show you how to take this niche and create your very own website… for FREE within Wealthy Affiliate :)

First we want to explain the difference between a Free website and a website that you OWN.

Your Own Website vs. A Free Website

Having your own domain name is ideal and gives you a huge competitive advantage when it comes to succeeding online. For example, if you owned your own domain it would look something like this…

www.yourwebsite.com

To host your own websites here, you have to be a Premium member.

When starting out it is not 100% necessary as we do provide TWO free websites to you as a Starter member. At Wealthy Affiliate we have one of the top Website Builders in the world called SiteRubix (you find it under the SiteRubix link in the main menu). This allows you to easily install both free websites and if you are a Premium member, websites on your own domain.

You can actually register domains here within Wealthy Affiliate as well through theSiteDomains platform as both a Starter or Premium member.

Today you are going to create a free website targeted to the niche that you have chosen in the previous lesson.

Choosing Your Domain Name…

When you create a free website today, you will choose a siterubix.com extension (subdomain). I suggest choosing something that is highly relevant to your niche.

For example, if your niche was “Macbook Air Cases”, your domain name would be:

macbookaircases.siterubix.com

And your website name would be:

Macbook Air Cases

As a Free member here at Wealthy Affiliate, you get 2 free websites, so If you make a mistake initially, you can always choose another one in the future and you can delete ones that you don’t want. In other words you can install/delete over and over again and have up to 2 websites hosted on our state of the art web hosting for absolutely nothing. They are free!

***As a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate you to host up to 50 websites (25 own domains, 25 free .siterubix.com websites) on our state of the art “managed” wordpress hosting platform. This includes unlimited email accounts, free SSL, , premium monitoring and security, access to our SiteComments, SiteHealth, and SiteFeedback platforms and 24/7/366 website support…. meaning you can create an army of successful sites for one or many niches!

Task 1: Watch the Video on Setting up Your Website using SiteRubix

Below you will find a training video specifically showing you how to create a website at Wealthy Affiliate using our easy-to-use website builder, SiteRubix. It really is simple and it will take you no more than a few minutes to get your very first website up and running.

At this stage of the course you should have your website created! Congratulations, this is a big accomplishment!Looking back to 2002 when I started my career in Online Business it took me almost 4 weeks to figure out how to build a website, there were no tools like WordPress Express and websites had to be developed by coding manually!

How things have changed!

In this lesson we are going to be walking you through the process of getting your website set-up so it is ready for the search engines and also ready for you to start building out the content. I am also going to be walking you through the activation of your plugins and what they really do for your site.

I have created a Video walk-through for this lesson. Click play to watch the video below…

Task 1: Login into your website admin area

In order to do this, you need to log into your website. This is very easy to do and can be done using the “Log In!” button (as shown below).

This will automatically show you all your users you have associated with your website and from there you can log into your website. No need for manual logins!

You can also find your website login details, username, and password within theDetails link on your WA Websites dashboard.

From there you will have all the manual login details (and some more automated login buttons). Do know that if you change your password, the auto login buttons WILL NOT work and you will have to login manually using the Login Page.

Task 2: Activate and Update Your Plugins

After you login, you will see your WordPress administration dashboard for your website (see below).

This may look completely foreign to you if you have never logged into a WordPress website before, but don’t worry, you will get the hang of this and there is a ton of help here within the community to work you through any questions/issues you may run into.

WordPress is the most powerful and widely used website platform in the world. It is used by over 30% of ALL websites (millions) and it also has a wide range of “add ons”known as plugins that you can use extend the functionality of your website.

When you install website here at WA we pre-install the most useful plugins with your website automatically and your first step is going to be activating these plugins.

To do this you will want to click on the Plugins tab within the menu.

You are going to want to go through and “Activate” the All in One SEO & the Exclude Pages from Navigation, and Akismet

plugins.

Task 3: Delete default Posts, Pages and Comments

Every new WordPress website that you install will come with “default” content. You want to get rid of this content before you can start creating content that is relevant to your niche.

The first thing you want to do is delete the default post that is added with each website. Click on the

Posts button, within the side menu.

This will take you to the posts page where you will go to see a list of all the posts on your website. A post is simply a content page on your site (we will be explaining them in more detail later).

Simply “mouse over” the post area and it will reveal the post management buttons. You will want to then click the “Trash” button. This will delete the default “Hello World!” post. Do the same with the “Pages” link as well.

**Do note that there may not be default Pages or Posts and if that is the case, just move on.

Now we are going to do the same thing with Comments. There is one default comment with every WordPress install. To manage your Comments simply click Comments within the menu.

Like the Posts page, this is where you will manage all of your websites comments. You will see the default comment showing there…

Like posts, you will simply “mouse over” the actual comment and the click the Trash button. This will delete the comment.

That is it for this lesson, you now have a live website that is set-up and ready to go. This is your own Internet “real estate”. You will use this website to connect with your niche and ultimately earn revenue through. This website is your foundation for building a successful online business!

Going forward we are going to be getting your website read for search engines by making it SEO friendly! This is going to be critical to your success going forward.

Congratulations on finishing the first half of the Level 1 training. You are making wonderful progress! :)

We are now getting into the fun stuff!

You have your website in place and now you want to make it SEO ready so that search engines can find it. Our goal is to get ranked in the BIG 3, Google, Bing & Yahoo. Do note that our focus is going to be primarily on Google though as they own over 2/3 of all search traffic, and over 95% of mobile searches.

But why do you want rankings in the search engines? Simple…

Website Rankings + Targeted Traffic = Revenue!

This is the first step in creating an online revenue stream. Today we are going to walk you through the set-up of a plugin that is going to do a lot of the “dirty work” for you and will take care of the optimization of all your website pages/posts, meta tags, and other aspects that search engines look for when ranking your site.

I have created a video walk-through of this training and please follow along as it will add a lot of clarity to how SEO works, but also how to install the All in One SEO plugin.

Task 1: Set-up All in One SEO on your site

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very important aspect of any website’s success.

In this task we are going to be setting up a plugin that makes our website code (the stuff behind the scenes of our website) friendly for search engines like Google so they can index and rank our sites properly. This is going to be very powerful for your website content getting ranked in search engines going forward, so don’t skip this task.

Make sure you follow the instructions on setting this up from this lesson’s video. Here are a few things that you want to remember:

  • You can update this at any time within your the main menu (the link to the All in One SEO set-up is just under the Dashboard menu item)
  • Update your Home Title and Home Description. Keywords are not all that important.
  • Change the | to – (optional)
  • Save the settings when done.

You are NOT going to see these changes from setting up this plugin as the work is done behind the scenes within your websites HTML code. Don’t worry about this, it is making your code friend for search engines like Google. :)

You have likely heard the term “keyword research”. This is the act of finding keyword phrases that are relevant to your niche and deciding whether or not it is appropriate to build content around that particular keyword. This is going to be the “root” of all your search engine optimization success, so we are going to be tackling keywords here before we get into creating content.

First, WHAT is a KEYWORD?

A keyword is simply a word or phrase that people search for in the search engines. Every time you do a google search you are entering a “keyword” into the search box.

Ultimately, the goal of your keyword research is to find keywords that you can get rankings in Google, Yahoo, and Bing with, all while attracting a relevant audience. You will be using the keywords that you find in this lesson to build content around. This will lead you to search engine rankings and traffic to your website!

In this lesson you are going to be tasked to come up with a few “keywords” relevant to your website and your niche.

Each page you create will be targeting a keyword…

That is correct. Moving forward, you are going to be building content on your website. Each page/post that you create will target a brand new keyword (and we will be showing you how). This means that every page or post will have the opportunity to rank under that given keyword in Google and lead to you getting traffic.

100 pages targeted 100 keywords = 100 potential Google rankings.

This can and will lead to mass amounts of traffic and those that follow along with this training are going to see their traffic continue to go up with every “keyword targeted” page or post that they create on their website.

Remember, Google and other search engines are around because of CONTENT and if you can deliver quality content (that targets low competition keywords), you will be able to get great rankings!

I have created a video walk-through of this lesson and I suggest you watch this if you want to get a wonderful overview of what keywords are and how to apply them to your business.

Task 1: Create a FREE Jaaxy Account (gives you 30 awesome searches)

To complete this lesson you must Register for a FREE Jaaxy Account!

Jaaxy.com is the most powerful keyword tool on the market and delivers accurate, real time data that is going to help you come up with SEO ready keywords. Jaaxy is a company that Carson and I own and founded and was built to fill the many gaps of every other keyword tool out there.

Going forward, Jaaxy is going to provide you with sophisticated keyword and research data (and will save you a TON of time). We offer 30 searches for free when you register which will get you up and running with your Niche & Keyword research.

Register for your free Jaaxy.com account here:

http://www.jaaxy.com/createaccount/

Again, this gives you access the trial plan, no credit cards required. I know you will love Jaaxy!

Task 2: Perform 10 different searches using Jaaxy.com

Your next task is going to be performing 10 full searches relevant to your niche using the Jaaxy.com Keyword tool. Jaaxy is the worlds BEST keyword research platform and there is a Free Trial account available that you need to sign-up for to complete this task.

My suggestion is to start broad with a few of your searches (ie. two or three word searches). For example if your niche was “how to lose belly fat”, you might want to start with the search terms:

  • belly fat
  • how to lose belly fat
  • belly fat weight loss
  • stomach fat
  • remove belly fat
  • etc

Then refine your searches. As you see keywords, check the QSR (Quoted Search Result). If it is under 300 results (the lower the better), add to your “good” keyword list (which will be used towards your next task). Ideally you want to aim for keywords with at least 50 monthly searches.

Task 3: : Research and find at least 5 keywords related to your niche

Your final task today is to find 5 keywords that meet the following criteria.

(1) More than 50 monthly searches (sometimes ANY traffic is OK)
(2) Less than 200 QSR. (the lower the less competition).
(3) Keyword must make sense.

Here is an example search using Jaaxy:

As you can see, most of these keywords meet the traffic test (over 50 monthly searches). The last check is to click the “Get QSR” to see what the competition is. If you are on the Jaaxy trial, you will simply click “Get QSR” until I find a keyword with under 200 competition.

The keyword must make grammatical sense. If it doesn’t and you want to use that keyword, do another search on the keyword that makes sense as the data will differ slightly. An example of this is “best tips lose belly fat” which doesn’t make grammatical sense (it is missing the “to”). I would do another search on this but this time “best tipsto lose belly fat”.

Do this exact process within your niche to come up with 5 Keywords.
